Let’s bring fans together during Paris 2024! Czech NOC and DOSB discussed further cooperation
The Olympic Games bring together people from all around the world. The Olympic Festival project, which will take place in the Czech city of Most next year during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, might connect no less than Czech and German sport fans and legends. That was one of the topics discussed on a bilateral meeting between representatives of the Czech Olympic Committee (Czech NOC) and the German Confederation of Olympic Sports (DOSB), that took place On Thursday, 9 November 2023.
Roman Kumpošt, Vice President of the Czech NOC for Foreign Affairs, discussed current topics in the field of sports diplomacy and the environment of the International Olympic Committee with DOSB CEO Torsten Burmester and Director of the International Department Katrin Grafarend.
We consider it very important to share our plans and intentions with this strong player in the sports environment.
„The Czech Olympic Committee has had a very good relationship with the DOSB leadership in recent years and we would like to continue this cooperation with the new DOSB leadership. We consider it very important to share our plans and intentions with this strong player in the sports environment and to support each other in our Olympic activities,“ Roman Kumpošt said.
During the meeting, the Director of the International Department of the Czech NOC Veronika Zemanová presented the Olympic Festival project, which will take place in the city of Most in Northern Bohemia next year – about 30 km away from borders with Germany. The possibilities of partnership and mutual cooperation were presented. This included the involvement of German sports clubs in the area close to the border, inviting the German border public, and the participation of German sports legends in the Olympic Festival programme, including Czech-German sports matches.
Another topic of discussion was the content of the strategic sustainability plans of both Olympic Committees and in particular the area of carbon footprint reduction. The DOSB has a high level of expertise in this area, and progress in reducing CO2 emissions can also be an inspiration for the Czech Olympic Committee.
Both parties agreed to strengthen their cooperation through an amendment to the existing Memorandum of Cooperation. This addendum should be officially signed in the first half of next year during a major sporting event.
