Boxing in the Czech Republic is governed solely by the Czech Boxing Association

For the Czech Olympic Committee, the only organisation that governs boxing in the Czech Republic is the Czech Boxing Association. “They are our partner with respect to Olympic qualifications for the Paris Games, as well as in relation to other Olympic competitions and all international activities,” said Jiří Kejval, President of the Czech Olympic Committee.

The Czech Boxing Association, which has represented Czech boxing since the 1920s, was in December 2023 excluded from the International Boxing Association (IBA). On Monday 26th February 2024, the IBA announced that it has accepted the Czech Boxing Federation as its new provisional member.

Last year the International Olympic Committee withdrew its recognition of the IBA due to long-standing problems with management, financing, and ethics. This was also the reason why the IOC stripped the IBA of responsibility for organising the Olympic qualification tournaments for the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Games.

“The Czech Boxing Association is treading the Olympic path. It is the path that the IBA has departed from. We are a new member of WORLD BOXING, where we are all working to ensure that boxing remains an Olympic sport. Boxing has taken a fundamental step to protect its historical existence. To be an Olympic sport provides not only the prestige vital for securing funding, but above all the prestige that enables our youth sections to thrive,” said Marek Šimák, President of the Czech Boxing Association.
